Zinc and ammonium releases from Galvanizing installations

The Problem

Zinc oxide & ammonium chloride are released when fluxed work is put into the galvanizing kettle. Some fumes escape and land on roofs and yards and some is soluble in rain.

Discharges to surface waters are now to be regulated with compliance to the DEFRA AQ 20(07) guidance document.

Discharge Prediction

The capturing of first flush from roof surfaces and outfall discharge plus intensive rainfall sampling allows prediction of future performance.

COD Fractionation

Influent characterisation is an essential tool for developing an understanding of a wastewater and its potential for Nitrogen and Phosphorus removal.
